New River Cemetery
Huron Twp, Huron County, Michigan

Lat: 44° 02' 00"N, Lon: 82° 51' 39"W

Contributed by William Silverthorn, Jan 02, 2002, last edited Apr 04, 2006 [wds@pobox.com]. Total records = 1,238.

The cemetery is on the south side of Hwy #25 in Section 32, east of the river and north of Hunter Road, west of New River Road.

I have transcribed from work completed in 1991 by Robert LaBelle, which was not copyrighted, but made available to the public, by placing a copy in each of the libraries in the surrounding area.

Robert LaBelle notes that: Land for the Cemetery was purchased in January, 1859. It says the deed for the cemetery is the first deed recorded in Huron County. It was purchased from Lorenzo M. Mason and wife Charlotte for 175.00 and recorded Nov 1, 1860.

LaBelle also notes that there are 1247 marked graves (in 1991) and a number of unmarked graves. This booklet was prepared from information gathered on all readable headstones, the sexton of the cemetery and from the Huron Twp. The cemetery is owned by the Township of Huron, Huron County MI.

I have added more names to Mr LaBelle's work, which was transcribed by Toni L. Plain from the LaBelle 1991 work. I then placed it into a spreadsheet format.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
