Mount Olivet Cemetery

This cemetery began after churches in the area joined together and sold stock to raise funds to build a cemetery. That stock was exchanged for 12 grave lots. This site was chosen and platted out in the fall of 1853, then dedicated in June of 1854. It now contains 32 acres.

The manager lives in the residence at the cemetery. The number of interments exceeds 4,400, of which 310 bodies of the Confederates were brought from the battle fields of Antietam, Monocacy, Gettysburg and South Mountain and are also buried here.
