Fish Family Cemetery
Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Kentucky

Lat: 37° 27' 53"N, Lon: 84° 30' 09"W

Contributed by Shirley Olson, Jun 29, 2005 [shirley32olson@yahoo.com] Total records = 16.

Start at the Rockcastle/Lincoln Co. line on Rte #150, go west .8 miles to a dirt road on the right. The cemetery is about .2 miles up this road, on a rise behind an abandoned farm house. There is a cattle gate blocking the entrance and cattle grazing on the farm.

The cemetery is located on the grounds of the former Fish Plantation. Previous to that it was the ancestral home of Col. George Washington Miller.

The current owner has pastured cattle on the land and the cemetery is in the process of being destroyed because the wrought iron fence is in disrepair. The gate to the cemetery is open which allows the animals to roam among and break the existing headstones. Overgrown with weeds, it is in serious trouble.

Access to the cemetery, (which is not owned by the owner of the surrounding land), has been denied by this land owner. This is a violation of state law, per a posting by the Ky. Atty. General, but remains unresolved.

Efforts have been made to restore and maintain this historically important cemetery, but to no avail, since it is surrounded by private property which is stocked with cattle, fenced and locked.

I walked the cemetery and recorded all the visible, readable headstones. The "starred" names were obtained from the family record compiled by Jennifer Kidwell Fish.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
