To reach the cemetery in Gaylord, from Hwy 9, take M road north for 1.25 miles. Cemetery is on the west/left side of the road.
The Gaylord Cemetery was founded in 1879 when James Clydesdale sold 40 acres to the town be used as a cemetery. In early Gaylord history the Grand Army of the Republic took charge of Memorial Day ceremonies, with the assistance of the Women's Relief Corps.
On Memorial Day the "boys" of Gaylord Post 355, GAR, would form a procession, headed by the Gaylord Euphonic band and march to the cemetery to hold services for their fallen comrades. The vetrans of World War I & World War II pledged to carry on Memorial services after the GAR was unable to carry on any longer. Now they are slowly being replaced by younger members when they are unable to continue with the services.
This is a complete listing of all the visiable and readable stone in the cemetery. The cemetery was walked by Robert Gillis and I from April to August 2005.
