Spring Hill Cemetery
Spring Hill, Johnson County, Kansas

799 W Lawrence St, Spring Hill KS

Lat: 38° 44' 48"N, Lon: 94° 50' 07"W

Contributed by Linda Lewis, Nov 20, 2006, last edited May 19, 2007 [webmaster@cottonhills.com].

From Kansas City, MO, take I35 South to the K7 / US 169H South exit. Continue south on 169H. Turn left onto W 199th Street. Turn right at N Webster Street, then turn right at W Lawrence Street. The cemetery is on the north (right) side of the road.

This old cemetery is very well maintained, and significant work goes into the care of this cemetery. Spring Hill suffered a tornado several years ago, and the cemetery was in it's direct path.

The tornado caused significant damage to many stones. As pieces of stones are uncovered naturally, a local volunteer sets them on concrete to preserve them. The cemetery also suffers occasional bouts of vandalism and there are and some stones are badly eroded due to weather and natural causes.

I visited and read the cemetery on Nov 19, 2006 using a digital camera. Kim Baker, Carol Rollins and I transcribed the index. The transcription includes all existing and legible tombstones and markers up to that date.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
