From Highway 50, in Cimarron KS, turn north onto 5th Street and drive approximately 10 blocks. The cemetery is located to your right on the east side of the street, which is in the northeastern area of the community of Cimarron.

Cimarron is on the Santa Fe trail about 15 miles west of Dodge City, Kansas, which was well known as a wild west cowtown in the late 1800s. One of the graves at the cemetery is that of a man killed in a gunfight for the county seat of Gray County in 1889.

It is believed that some people were buried here before any records were kept probably starting in the 1850s when this was a hay station on the Santa Fe trail, soldiers would be stationed here to accompany freight wagons and wagon trains as they headed west. I have been trying to find out if there is a mass grave here as some have said, I have read differing accounts of an Indian massacre near here in about 1868. The earliest known date on a headstone is for a Rev. A. C. Green, date of birth 6/11/1812, date of death 9/2/1878.

The Cimarron Cemetery Association was formed in 1893 by six members of the town, including Mrs. Laura Green Hudson, daughter of Rev. Green. It was run by this association until 1924 when it was turned over to the Cimarron Township Board which still oversees it today.

The cemetery is in pretty good condition there are some stones that are leaning and a few older ones have been broken but for the most part it is in good shape.

This includes all known burials up to Jun 13, 2007.
