To reach cemetery from Walnut, starting at State Hwy 146, drive north on N 20th Street for 2 miles. The cemetery will be on the west/left side of the street in the southwest corner of the intersection with W 700th Ave.

The Walnut Cemetery was established in 1870, on approx. 10 acres of land provided as a gift from J.A. Marshall, who was the grandfather of Mr. Harvey McFarland of Walnut. The first burial is believed to be a infant who died in a covered wagon that was passing through. The next is believed to be Infant Harvey in 1869.

The cemetery is privately funded and during the years it has been neglected. Due to the efforts of a couple of people, work has begun to see that the cemetery is fixed up. Much of the work they are doing is volunteer, since money is short. The cemetery is still being used for burials.

I walked and read this cemetery in the summer of 2006. This includes all existing and legible headstone and marker readings.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
