Old Elsmore Cemetery
Elsmore, Allen County, Kansas

Lat: 37° 49' 10"N, Lon: 95° 10' 44"W
Elsmore Township, Section 2

Contributed by Steve Burrows, Jan 11, 2008, last edited Jul 26, 2009 [dunwandrinone@gmail.com]. Total records = 132.

This cemetery is located south of highway 54 near Iola. From 54, take Hwy 59 south about 7 miles, then west on Hawaii Street to 4000 Street. The cemetery is on south side of Hawaii Street at this intersection. This is northwest of the small town of Elsmore.

On Jul 16, 1864, James Russell deeded to Reuben Butler, Reuben Savercool, Charles Schubert, James A. Harris and Henry Rodgers, one-half acre to be used for a graveyard.

The cemetery was called 'Elsmore' until 1898, when it was changed to its current name. There is a cemetery by that name in the town of Elsmore, which is southeast of here a couple miles.

I have walked this cemetery more than once, the last time in Dec of 2007. Many stones are illegible, but I also have included some old sexton file records to make it a more complete work.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
