To get to this cemetery, take the Michigan Road southeast from the city of Shelbyville approximately seven miles to the intersection with County Road 600E. Turn right onto 600E and proceed south about one fourth of a mile. The cemetery is visible on a hilltop east of the road.

The Chapman Cemetery is a small family cemetery located on private land on a bluff above Buck Creek. The smaller gravestones in this cemetery are badly weathered and lean forward.

I made an effort to document every visible burial in this cemetery. A few gravestones were not inscribed at all. Most detailed maps of Shelby County show this cemetery. At the time this record was compiled, the cemetery was surrounded by an iron fence which was in good condition.

I am the one who made this record on Nov 01, 1992 by visiting the cemetery to compile tombstone inscriptions.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
