Located west of IL Rte 102, on the south side of Oak Street. Adjacent to the north of the older section of Mount Olivet is Oakwood Cemetery.

The church was established in 1853 but some of the burials (in section A) may have occurred earlier from a mission church that may have operated as early as 1838. Cemetery is owned and administered by the Catholic Diocese of Joliet, the cemetery records are maintained by the Saint Rose of Lima church.
