In Mullan ID, which is on I-90 driving east out of Wallace, turn right
or south onto Copper Street, left or east onto Montana Street and continue
about three blocks, turning right onto Cemetery Road. Take the second
left turn up the hill to the cemetery.
This cemetery was established as the cemetery for the city in about
1907. It along with all of the cemeteries are maintained by the city,
although each family tends to the family plots. They were in the process
of building a board as we enter, with a map of the cemetery to show
where the people are buried. There are about 12 sections to the cemetery,
so it is helpful to know which section and row they are in.
It had been raining for weeks making it impossible to mow the grass
in the cemetery. They were busy trying to accomplish this task when
I was there, but all my photos show the grass unmowed. Normally this
is a very well maintained cemetery.
The names with an asterisk came from the sexton files, provided me
by the Mullan city clerk, where they have the records. I obtained the
locations from those records, although I found about 42 names which
were not in the sexton records, so I could only add the Section and
sometimes the row.
I walked and surveyed this cemetery on May 20-21, 2006, using a digital
camera. I have photos of all the existing and legible stones.
