On State Hyway 20 going from St. Anthony towards Ashton, Island Park, go 5.9 miles from main over pass into St. Anthony to Chester turnoff. At the Fall River Trading Post gas station / convinence store, (the business is closed, for lease/or sale) turn south, cross over railroad tracks, continue going 1.7 more miles till cross road. Turn west .03 miles, cemetery will be on the south side of road in fenced area.

This is a pretty little cemetery dotted with trees and bushes surrounded by a white fence. The property used for the cemetery was owned by Annie Blanchard when the town of Chester was established around 1885. The Wilford Cemetery District purchased the property from the Blanchard family on Aug 07, 1933, and still cares and maintains the cemetery to this day. Plots are still available for purchase in this small cemetery.

There is a story going around Chester, that a African American Slave, who came west with one of the settlers, died and is buried between the old and new cemeteries. No one in town, now that the "old timers" have all passed on, knows where this grave is located or the name of the slave.

The old part of this cemetery is on the south side of fenced in area and only had about 5 obvious burials.

I have tried to find out the "unknowns" in this cemetery. Apparently the sexton if the cemetery passed away, and instead of putting the information of the graves in a book, he just wrote down the names and threw the pieces of paper in a drawer. They have just appointed someone to take his place. The new sexton, said he hasn't made heads or tails of all the small notes as of yet, but would get a hold of me as soon as he got the records in proper order.

These records are complete. I went during the fall of 2004 and wrote down all the tombstones that I could read. There are many that are no longer readable.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
