To reach Mountain View take Soldier Creek Road out of Fairfield. It veers
to the right, and back north again and continues for about 3½ miles. When
you reach the third crossroad after making the turn north, turn left onto
another road, and the cemetery will be in a very short distance.
The Mountain View cemetery was once called Soldier cemetery. The cemetery
started in the early 1880's. This cemetery is owned and maintained by
the county, and is still active.
Camas Prairie is a high plateau-like valley in South Central Idaho
encased by mountains to the north and south. The average elevation is
about five thousand feet. It slopes gently from west to east and from
north to south, in which direction all the streams flow. Fairfield is
a town in this valley. There are 4 main cemeteries in this valley, the
Manard, Hill City, Mountain View and Corral, all maintained by the county.
I walked and transcribed this cemetery in Feb of 2003.
