History

Final resting place of Abbie Gardner Sharp, the girl who witnessed the Spirit Lake Massacre, and who was taken hostage by men from the Wahpekute band of Indians. Members of her family are buried here, some of which were killed in the massacre.

The cemetery is located on the grounds of the Abbie Gardner Cabin, which is now a state park. The grounds are also home to Pioneer Cemetery, where other massacre victims are buried.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
