History

East Porterdale Cemetery was established in 1946 as an extension to Porterdale Cemetery. Both East Porterdale Cemetery and Porterdale Cemetery have been used primarily by African Americans. In 1993, based on an urgent need, a pauper section was added to East Porterdale. Civil rights advocate who campaigned for the right for all to vote, Mr. Primus King are among those buried in East Porterdale cemetery.
