Rand District Cemetery
Johannesburg, Kern County, California

Transcribed and Contributed by "Anonymous", May 2000 [robinstein@ccis.com ]. Total records = 621.

Located on a hill in Johannesburg, Calif, the cemetery is bounded by Mt. Wells Avenue on the north, Sunset Avenue on the south, Ophir Street on east, and Fremont Street on the west.

Thanks to Bart Parker, caretaker of the cemetery, for the following information on the history: It was established in Dec of 1896 when J.F. Davis, a gambler who had been shot in a gambling hall in Randsburg, was buried there

Some of the grave markers are faded and unreadable, some of the headstones and crosses are made of wood. Many of the graves have personal items place upon them, such as glassware, pans that were used for panning gold, and rock collections. One site has a mine car as a marker.

    cemetery records

A free online library of cemetery records from thousands of cemeteries across the world, for historical and genealogy research.

    Clear Digital Media, Inc.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
