To reach from Cullman I 65 & 278 West. Go 11.6 mi on 278W to Jones Chapel, turn right, take Co Rd 1082 by large cemetery, go 1/2 mile turn left on Co Rd 1041.

The original land for this cemetery was donated by Mr. & Mrs. Lewis. A deed dated Oct 30, 1909 listed The Church of Christ and Odd Fellows as owners. A two story building was built to be used on the lower level for Church and the upper part for the Odd Fellows Hall.

As time went by the Church of Christ and the Oddfellows both moved from the building and relocated, with no interest in the cemetery. After much research on this I have contacted both groups and asked for a name change, since the Vance descendants have maintained and preserved the cemetery since the early 1900s.

On Aug 30, 1999 a new deed was drawn up, and the Vance Cemetery Inc. was formed. At this time Vance Cemetery Inc. officially owns and maintains this cemetery and all graves have markers. The first person buried was Miles Wesley Oscar Vance in 1918. Three tombs listed in 1916 & 1917 were moved from their Homestead on May 14, 2001.

I have transcribed this reading which is complete up to Aug 31, 2004.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
