Borszczow Cemetery (Woodlight Cemetery)
Hinchcliffe, Kamsack Region, Saskatchewan

Hinchcliffe, Saskatchewan
SW24-36-4-W2

Contributed by Evangeline Mostowchuk, Aug 03, 2003, last edited Jan 03, 2006 [van345@email.com]. Total records = 38.

Turn north at Junction 9 & 49 just east of Preeceville. Go north on Highway #9 to Hinchcliffe corner (There's a cemetery on the left). Turn right (east) at that corner, the grid road sign says Danbury. Go east 7 miles. Turn left (north) on grid road for 3 miles. Cemetery is on the right along the road.

John Smud (Zmut) donated 2 acres of land for this cemetery. The first person to be buried in this cemetery was Maria Kiselowski, 1852-1909, age 57. On Dec 20, 1913, the land was registered in the name of Borszczow Cemetery.

Most people refer to the cemetery as Woodlight Cemetery, as the school across the road was called Woodlight, as was a post office in earlier times. The first trustees were Steve Grominski, Alex Yarycky, Nicholie Smud(Zmut), Joe Zelikosky, and Tom Parasiuk.

This record represents the names on the headstones and the nameless crosses I saw in a visit to the cemetery, as accurately as I could read the headstones. Some are not in the best shape.

I visited the Borszczow Cemetery in mid Jul, 2003. I recorded the names and dates from the tombstones, some I transliterated, as they were in Ukrainian.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
