Cemetery History

Saint James Cemetery was the first burial ground in Lennoxville and was located at the south end of town between present-day Elmwood and Maple Grove Streets.

Although it was owned by the Anglican Church, (Saint James Church was nearby), it was considered non-denominational. The first recorded burial was in 1823. The cemetery was not used after about 1870 when Malvern Cemetery opened on Moulton Hill Road. Some stones in fact were removed to Malvern. The land for the cemetery was sold to nearby land owners in 1965. Over the years some landowners have found markers or pieces of monuments on their property.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
