Tolsta Cemetery
Stornoway, Frontenac County, Quebec

GPS: 45.654393, -71.218063

Contributed by Leslie Nutbrown, Aug 14, 2006. . Total records = 31.

From Sherbrooke take Route 143 south to Lennoxville. Then take route 108 East. Stay on this road passing through Cookshire, Bury and Gould. Continue through Sainte Marguerite de Lingwick toward Stornoway. After a few miles watch for a road on your right called Tolsta Road. Stay on Route 108 and shortly after viewing Tolsta Road you will see a farm on the right and beside it a large sign saying Tolsta Cemetery. You will have to drive along the edge of the farm, open a gate and continue through a pasture to get to the cemetery which you can see in the distance. You may have to seek permission to cross the pasture either by foot or with a vehicle if the land is dry.

This is another of the Scottish cemeteries scattered about Frontenac County in the area once known as Tolsta, named after Tolsta, Isle of Lewis, Hebrides, Scotland. Although the cemetery is maintained, some stones had fallen over. It was nicely mowed, had a fence and a gate but its location in the middle of a cow pasture makes it difficult to reach.

I recorded all legible tombstones from this cemetery in August of 2006.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
