Saint Paul River Cemetery
Bonne Esperance, Duplessis, Quebec

Lat: 51° 28' 14", Lon: 57° 42' 45"

Contributed by Charles Gravel, Feb 14, 2006, last edited Feb 17, 2006. [charles_gravel@hotmail.com]. Total records = 45.

To go to the cemetery, follow the road 138W. You must drive about one half mile on this road after crossing the Saint Paul River bridge then turn north at the local health center and take a dead end sand road that brings you right to the cemetery.

This cemetery is used both by Catholic and Anglican people and is maintained by the municipality of Bonne Esperance.

The village started in 1781 with the French settler Amador Godefroy de St-Paul who opened a trading post there. Later, people coming from Newfoundland settled down in St-Paul Village and opened a fish plant that has been in operation for many years. The village was officially named St-Paul River in 1956.

I compiled this transcription in November of 2000. I found at least 12 wooden crosses with no inscriptions.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
