Saint Thomas Aquinas Cemetery
Compton, Compton County, Quebec
Contributed by Leslie Nutbrown, Jul 10, 2007, last edited May 08,

Total records = 1,175.
This Catholic cemetery is located on Hatley Road right in the
village of Compton. The cemetery is attractive with some large maple
trees along the roadside. It is fenced and there are several gates.
One can park along the widened road if the gates are not open.
It appears to have begun in the 1850s and is used today. Of special
interest is the fact that a Prime Minister of Canada, namely Louis
S. St. Laurent is buried here. His modest tombstone does not reflect
the fact that he was in the highest office but there is a plaque
nearby from the Government of Canada.
The cemetery is in good condition and is generally flat so is
easy to walk about. The majority of those interred here are French
Canadians but there is a sizeable number of English interred here
also.
Susan Nutbrown and I walked and read this cemetery in July 2007
and made a complete recording of all tombstones and markers.
