Saint Mary Cemetery

The Cemetery is located about 100 miles north west of Ottawa Ontario. From Ottawa take the 417 west joining the 17 at Arnprior and continue to Renfrew where you join Highway 60 west passing through Eganville and Golden Lake. Once you enter Wilno, Saint Mary Parish Church and the cemetery will be on your left on Shrine Hill.

This cemetery was created replacing Saint Stanislaus Pioneer Cemetery which was the original cemetery used in Wilno. This cemetery is in excellent condition and still in use.

The hamlet of Wilno is the first and oldest Polish settlement in Canada. The impressive twin spired church of Saint Mary, dedicated to Our Lady of Czestochowa Queen of Poland, stands high on a rise overlooking the Wilno hills.

It was built mostly by hand with local labor the church was completed in 1937 and replaced the earlier chapel of Saint Stanislaus Kostka which burnt to the ground in 1936. The parishioners of Wilno, then as now, were dedicated to their church and the original cemetery of Saint Stanislaus although no longer used for burials is maintained by descendants of the original Kashubian settlers.
