Matthiasville Cemetery
Draper Township, Muskoka District, Ontario

Contributed by Carol Fraser, Feb 24, 2006 [pfraser@csolve.net]. Total records = 42.

Take Hwy 11 north to Hwy 118, go east to Matthiasville. There is a plaque by the road but you have to walk through a pine forest trail to find it.

William Matthias came to Draper Township with 9 sons, a carpenter, mill wright, blacksmith, and formed a town on the South Branch of the Muskoka River. The cemetery is used by this town which both are named after him.

This cemetery began when a young boy, s/o Albert Spring died in a logging accident. They sent logs down the South Branch of the Muskoka river to Lake Muskoka and the young boys seem to be the ones they sent out on the jams to unjam them, many died. Unfortunately his name doesn't survive on the headstones.

I completed this transcription in September 2002.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
