McGaw Cemetery
Cheapside, Walpole Township, Haldimand County, Ontario

275 Cheapside Road, Cheapside, Ontario
Concession 1, Lot 18, Walpole Twp

Contributed by Murray E. Fair, Sep 28, 2009, last edited Oct 28, 2009 [murrayfair@rogers.com]. Total records = 55.

To reach this cemetery, begin at the intersection of Highway 2 & 53, east of Brantford, (Cainsville), there are traffic lights, travel south on Brant County Road # 18, for several kilometres, you will come to an intersection with traffic lights. Turn left on to Brant County Road # 4, a.k.a. Cockshutt Road, travel south for a few kilometres. Watch for a road sign indicating Brant County Road # 20, a.k.a. Indian Line, turn left and travel east for several kilometres, watch for a road sign indicating Haldimand County Road # 18, a.k.a. Sandusk Road. Turn right and continue south for several kilometres.

Watch for a road sign indicating Concession 2, Walpole Township. Turn left and travel east to the village of Cheapside to the four corners, with all way stop signs. Turn right and travel south on Cheapside Road a short distance to Haldimand County Road # 3, a.k.a. Rainham Road. McGaw Cemetery is located on the southwest corner of this intersection.

This cemetery is under the supervision of the County of Haldimand. The grass is kept cut. There are few large tree branches that have been broken off probably by high winds and lying on the ground at the back of the cemetery. Most of the old slab type stones have been placed in a row, set in concrete near the back of the cemetery. There are a few large upright monuments still in their original locations where the burial took place through out the cemetery.

I walked this cemetery in Sep of 2009, reading and recording the inscription on each monument or grave marker that I was able to read. A few very older stones I was unable to read because of their poor condition.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
