Old Paris Cemetery
Paris, Brant County, Ontario, Canada

Church Street, Paris, Ontario, Canada

Contributed by Murray E Fair, Jun 30, 2007, last edited Sep 19, 2011 [murrayfair@rogers.com]. Total records = 129.

To reach this cemetery, travel Dundas Street West, also known as Highway # 2, through Paris and up a long winding grade. As you reach the top of the grade, there is Queen's Ward School on the right. Keep watch for Church Street and make a left turn on to Church Street, travel one block and on your right, south side you will see the cemetery.

This cemetery is under the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the County of Brant. It is inactive and has been for many, many years. It is in a sad state of affairs.

Several years ago, the existing tombstones were moved to a compound type location on the central eastern edge of the original cemetery. A wrought iron fence was built around the area. Vandals have caused considerable damage by toppling old large spire type stones and broken many of the flat stones.

Grass and weeds have overgrown many of the stones on the ground. Some of the stones that were toppled, I was unable to read. The grass in the general area of the original cemetery is kept nicely mowed.

I walked this cemetery in June, 2007, reading and recording the inscription from each tombstone that could be read in order to complete the transcription process.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
