Cemetery History

The cemetery was established in 1878 on land donated by two pioneers – George Howison and William Nelson. Each man donated a quarter of an acre at the back of their properties [near the Dewdney Trunk] with a 10 foot road allowance to run between the cemetery and River Road to the south where the Methodist Church was located.

The two trees at the gate were planted by Frank Harris, another land owner who sold part of his land to the cemetery.

No records of interment were kept until 1897. Many records were lost in a flood that occurred in 1950. More history can be found in the guide linked below...

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
