This cemetery is in the southwest corner of the intersection of State Hwy 62 with 500 E Road in the community of Canaan.

Canaan Cemetery was established in 1812. It is a burial site of Revolutionary & Civil War soldiers. This was a former location of Canaan Methodist Church. The land was acquired and cemetery restored by Indian-Kentuck Baptist Church in 1963. The names and dates recorded were taken directly off the stones, if the stone was readable, if the dates were not readable I used the 1941 D.A.R. record. I completed this record on Jan. 23, 2000

There were about 41 stones that were unreadable. There were 22 names on the D.A.R. list that I couldn't find so some of them were apparently among the ones that were unreadable now. One stone was upside down & I couldn't read it, I am assuming it is one that is on the D.A.R. list. I have including the names that were on the D.A.R. list of 1941 with an asterisk * to Identify them following the given name.
