Lingwick Protestant Cemetery
Gould, Compton County, Quebec

From Lennoxille, follow Route 108 about 45 minutes and you will come to the small town of Gould. The cemetery is in three sections. The Main Gate is on the right on Route 108 just as you go up the hill out of town. It is the oldest of the three. You can either park along the road, or open the gate and drive up the steep hill. The other two sections are only a short distance away on the Scotstown Road (route 257). The lower one I have referred to as the West Gate. The upper one is called the East Gate.

This cemetery, in Lingwick Township, is the final resting place of settlers from Scotland and their descendants. A great many came from the Hebridean Islands in the mid 1800s especially from the Isle of Lewis. All three sections are still used for burials but the East Gate is the largest of the three and the most recent.

Lingwick cemetery began in 1837 and is still used today. It overlooks the scenic farm land where these people once lived. It is well maintained by the Lingwick Protestant Cemetery Corporation and most stones are legible.
