to read the latest articles. If you'd like to get your work in front
of that many pairs of eyes, then contact us below.
While The Cemetery Column does not pay its contributors, it is
a great place to get your start as a writer, or to share your opinions,
or contribute your research. Contributed writings will include
the writer's credit, including e-mail and website address.
Topics
The Cemetery Column publishes writings relating to cemeteries,
burial customs, recording inscriptions, funerals, legal matters,
etc. We also publish articles about genealogy in general. Acceptable
topics may include, but are not limited to:
- genealogy issues
- the history of a favorite cemetery
- commentary or opinion (relating to family history or cemeteries)
- preservation of old cemeteries
- product reviews
- memories of yesteryear (relating to family history or cemeteries)
- burial customs
- ghost stories and hauntings
- interpreting inscriptions
- a cemetery restoration project you are working on
- cemetery art
- interviews with cemetery and genealogy enthusiasts
How to submit a writing
- Please read the Conditions and Terms of
Agreement.
- E-mail your topic to me: steve@cleardigitalmedia.com.
If the topic has already been written about, you might consider
the same topic but provide a different or opposing viewpoint,
or elaborate further on the previous article.
- We will e-mail you back confirming your topic.
- Write your article. You can write your article using Microsoft
Word, Word Perfect, or any text-editor. If you do not have
a Windows PC computer, please store the file in ASCII Text, HTML,
or Rich Text Format. You can also write the article directly
into an e-mail.
- Try to include scanned photographs or images (optional). These
add extra dimension to your story and give readers some extra
perspective on the subject.

Conditions and Terms of Agreement
Acceptance
All persons contributing works to The Cemetery Column must read
and accept these Conditions and Terms of Agreement. By submitting
a work to The Cemetery Column, it is agreed that the author has
accepted the Conditions and Terms of Agreement.
Ownership
All article submissions to The Cemetery Column must be previously
unpublished original work written by you. You will own the copyright,
and are free to republish your work elsewhere. However, Steve
Paul Johnson, the editor and owner of The Cemetery Column, reserves
the right to maintain publication of your work on The Cemetery Column,
reserves the right to edit your work, and reserves the right to
promote your work.
Photographs and Graphics
All photographs and graphics must be in .jpg or .gif format.
The use of photographs and graphics is encouraged, but only if
you own them or have permission to publish them.
The Cemetery Column cannot publish photographs or graphics without
confirmation from the owner of those photographs and graphics that
it has permission to do so. If the permission has not been
granted, those photographs and graphics will not be published, or
will be removed.
Quotations from other published works
If you plan to include text from another published work, article,
or writing, please confirm that you have permission from the owner
of the work to republish that material. If the permission has not
been granted, those quotations will not be published, or will be
removed.
